IBDP IBDP

IBDP

Education goes beyond the grades needed for university. It helps students discover their interests, develop their abilities and exercise sound judgement, so they can take an active role in shaping their futures.

Guided by its vision of a multicultural learning community for holistic education, ISA Liwan places the IB at the heart of its educational approach, bringing together academic inquiry, independent thinking, social responsibility, intercultural understanding and personal growth. Here, students shape individual learning pathways around their interests, abilities and university aspirations, supported by a holistic education that helps each learner flourish.

03 | Why Us?

An IB Continuum for Sustained Growth

Since its founding, ISA Liwan has developed an IB continuum from Early Years through high school: PYP → MYP → DP. All three programmes are authorised by the IB, providing a coherent learning pathway across school stages.

As students progress from broad exploration to focused study, from understanding the world to engaging with society, and from asking questions to conducting independent research, they build three essential foundations.

  • Academic Foundations: From Acquiring Knowledge to Active Inquiry

Inquiry runs through the PYP, MYP and DP. Students progress from broad transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary exploration towards in-depth research within specific subjects.

  • Responsibility: From Understanding Society to Taking Action

Students begin by learning about society in the PYP, engage more actively with their communities in the MYP, and apply their knowledge through purposeful action in the DP. Real-world experiences develop responsibility and international-mindedness.

  • Essential Capabilities: Grounded in China, Open to the World

Through transdisciplinary inquiry, interdisciplinary learning and the DP core, students develop creative and critical thinking, consider different perspectives and deepen intercultural understanding. Their grounding in local culture gives them the confidence to engage with the wider world.

  • Early Preparation | A Smooth Transition to the DP

ISA Liwan introduces IBDP preparation courses in Grade 10, helping students adapt their learning approaches before entering the DP.

This structured preparation supports a smooth transition through three priorities: Strengthening academic foundations, Developing new approaches to learning and Cultivating international-mindedness.

Early planning and preparation help students enter the DP with stronger academic foundations, an international perspective and an enquiring mindset.

  • Progressive Development | Language Preparation from an Early Stage

Across Grades 10–12, the school provides a progressive programme of language development and standardised test preparation, covering IELTS, TOEFL and the SAT. This coherent approach helps students work towards their target scores before the application season while developing the academic English skills needed for university study abroad.

  • The DP Core | Holistic Education Beyond Grades
Education extends far beyond a report card. Alongside a balanced programme of subject study, all IBDP students complete three core components: Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), the Extended Essay (EE) and Theory of Knowledge (TOK).
The core develops independent thinking, time management, creativity and practical skills, alongside social responsibility and a global outlook. These qualities help ISA students bring initiative, leadership and care for others to university life.
